Discover the stories behind some of our most compelling signage projects and the difference they’ve made for our clients.

NAIT Centre for Applied Technology (CAT) Building

The Centre for Applied Technology (CAT) Building is a 555,000 square foot state of the art facility and is one of the largest post-secondary buildings in Canada. The five-storey building serves approximately 5000 full time students studying in advanced labs, classrooms, and simulation rooms and offers numerous amenities and services. It is now called the Feltham Centre, named for NAIT’s sixth president and CEO.

Through a competitive bidding process, Royal Stamp was awarded the contract for fabrication and installation of all interior and exterior signage. Interior signage included washroom and stair signs, staff identification signage, room ID, goal signs, building directories, directional signs, and dimensional lettering and logos. Exterior signage included building pylons, building ID, parking signs, directory, regulatory, and dimensional lettering.

We were also awarded the contract for fabrication and installation of the NAIT CAT branding package. This scope of work encompassed wall graphics throughout the facility, banners, and more than two linear miles of printed window frosting film on offices and workstations.

Our role involved working collaboratively with NAIT, Clark Builders, and the consultant in providing our expertise regarding product design, functionality, and suitability. Samples and prototypes were developed, followed by the creation of shop drawings, fabrication, and installation. Additions to the interior signage continued throughout the project, including signage for all of the restaurants in the food court. Site meetings were held to view installed mockups of the wall graphics and frosting film to determine the most visually appealing options, factoring in privacy requirements and light diffusion.

The Feltham Centre is the largest capital project in NAIT’s history, and it set a major precedent in sustainable campus development. Eight months after opening its doors, the facility - the first NAIT building ever to aspire to be LEED certified - earned LEED gold certification.
